International Labour Day is a national holiday in more than 80 countries around the world and a day for working people around the world to unite and fight. 2024 will be the 134th International Workers’ Day. The origin of May Day can be traced back to the general strike of the city of Chicago in 1886, when more than 216,000 workers held a general strike for the implementation of the eight-hour working day. After a hard struggle, they finally won the victory. In order to commemorate this great workers’ movement, in July 1889, the Second International, led by Engels, held a congress in Paris and decided to designate May 1 as International Labor Day every year.
The significance of the May Day Labor Day is to commemorate the day when working people fought for their legitimate rights and interests, and remind people to have an indomitable spirit of common struggle. The celebration of this day usually includes gatherings, parades and other recreational and cultural activities to show respect for workers and value the fruits of their labor. This is a memorable day for us to celebrate together and pay tribute to all working people.
