The 2026 Colombia International Medical Equipment, Laboratory and Pharmaceutical Healthcare Exhibition (MEDITECH) is one of the most influential professional medical exhibitions in Colombia and even Central and South America. The exhibition is jointly organized by the Bogota Medical Association, the Chamber of Commerce and the German Messe Dusseldorf. It is held every two years. It has been successfully held for 8 times since its inception in 2008, and the 9th one will be held in 2026. The exhibition covers multiple fields such as medical devices, laboratory equipment, medical materials, healthcare products and dental equipment, providing an international platform for global medical companies to showcase innovative technologies and products.

As one of the MEDICA global series of exhibitions, MEDITECH relies on the resource network of the world’s largest medical exhibition organizer and has become an important bridge for Chinese companies to explore markets in Colombia, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. Bogota, where the exhibition is held, is the economic and political center of Colombia with strong radiation, attracting professional buyers, hospital managers, procurement decision-makers, experts and scholars from all over the world.

Colombia is the fourth largest economy in Latin America, with GDP expected to grow by 2.6% in 2025. With a population of approximately 52.3 million, it is the second most populous country in South America. Its demographic structure has obvious advantages: the working-age population accounts for nearly 70%, and the urbanization rate reaches 82.4%. At the same time, the aging trend is emerging, with the population over 65 years old accounting for 9.1%, and is expected to continue to grow in the future. Colombia has signed free trade agreements with many countries, providing a favorable trade environment for enterprises.

Colombia is the fourth largest pharmaceutical market and the third largest medical device market in Latin America. Drug sales will reach US$6.5 billion in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 8.48%; the medical device market size will be US$1.42 billion in 2022, and is expected to increase to US$2.21 billion in 2030 (CAGR 5.7%). The country has strong medical needs, a high prevalence of chronic diseases (such as diabetes prevalence of 8.3%), and the medical system is highly dependent on imports, with 89% of medical devices imported from abroad. The government is promoting the modernization of medical infrastructure, driving demand for high-end diagnostic equipment, surgical instruments and remote monitoring products.

After China and Colombia signed a free trade agreement in 2022, bilateral trade continued to grow. The trade volume in 2024 will reach 149.63 billion yuan (about 21 billion U.S. dollars), a year-on-year increase of 13.1%. The medical field has outstanding performance. In 2024, China’s exports of pharmaceutical products to Colombia will reach US$740 million, a year-on-year increase of 18.74%; from January to April 2025, the export volume of medical devices increased by 16.6% year-on-year.

The Colombian medical device market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 6.3% from 2024 to 2029, and will reach US$2.2 billion in 2029. Major needs include diagnostic imaging, life monitoring, ventilators and disposable consumables. The demand for digital medicine and remote diagnosis and treatment is rising. Chinese medical devices are highly favored due to their high cost performance and are suitable for exploring markets in areas such as chronic disease management.
